The Third Teacher
Children have three teachers… Their parents & families, their teachers & peers, and their environment.
The latter is termed The Third Teacher by Loris Malaguzzi, founder of the Reggio Emilia Philosophy.
A child's learning environment, be it at home or school, and the resources within it play an important role in how children learn. Together, space, materials & mood make The Third Teacher a place of exploration and discovery. Children feel a sense of belonging when they step into an environment that is inviting, warm and aesthetically beautiful.
